You Should Never Have to Choose Between Your Comfort and Your Health

Dental anxiety is real, and it is far more common than most people admit. For some patients, it means showing up to appointments feeling nervous and tense. For others, it means avoiding the dentist altogether, even when something is clearly wrong. At Linrose Dental in Saratoga Springs, UT, we believe that fear should never stand between you and the care your smile needs.

Dr. Brent Bell’s gentle, patient-centered approach sets the foundation for a more comfortable experience from the moment you walk in. And for patients who need additional support, we offer a range of sedation options designed to help you feel calm, relaxed, and completely at ease, so you can get the care you need without the anxiety that has been holding you back.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry uses safe, carefully controlled methods to help patients feel deeply relaxed during dental procedures. Sometimes called sleep dentistry, it is important to understand that most forms of sedation do not actually put you to sleep.

Instead, they create a state of calm that makes the experience feel shorter, easier, and far less stressful. Throughout your visit, our team monitors you closely to ensure your comfort and safety every step of the way.

We Offer Multiple Sedation Dentistry Options Tailored to Your Needs

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is the lightest form of sedation we offer and is an excellent option for patients with mild to moderate anxiety. It is inhaled through a small mask placed over the nose and takes effect within minutes, producing a pleasant sense of calm and relaxation.

One of the biggest advantages of nitrous oxide is that it clears your system quickly once the mask is removed, allowing most patients to drive themselves home and return to their normal activities right after their appointment.

Oral conscious sedation involves taking a prescribed medication before your appointment that helps you feel deeply relaxed and at ease throughout your visit. You will remain awake and able to respond to questions, but you will feel drowsy and comfortable, and many patients have little to no memory of the procedure afterward. This option is well-suited for patients with moderate to significant anxiety or those who are undergoing longer or more involved treatment.

IV sedation delivers sedative medication directly into the bloodstream for a deeper, more immediate level of relaxation. It takes effect very quickly and allows our team to adjust the level of sedation throughout your appointment as needed. IV sedation is an excellent option for patients with more significant anxiety or for those undergoing complex procedures who want a deeper level of comfort and calm.

For patients with severe dental phobias, extensive treatment needs, or those who simply prefer to be completely unaware during their procedure, general anesthesia provides the deepest level of sedation available.

At Linrose Dental, we partner with a licensed external provider, a CRNA or board-certified anesthesiologist, who comes directly to our office to administer and monitor anesthesia throughout your appointment. This allows you to receive the care you need in a familiar, trusted environment without referral to an outside surgical facility.

The Benefits of Choosing Sedation

Sedation Dentistry FAQs

Yes. When administered by trained professionals with proper monitoring, sedation is a safe and well-established approach to managing dental anxiety and discomfort. Our team reviews your health history thoroughly before recommending any sedation option to ensure it is the right fit for you.

Preparation instructions vary depending on the type of sedation being used. For oral conscious sedation and deeper options, you will typically be asked to avoid eating or drinking for a period of time beforehand. We will provide you with clear, detailed instructions well in advance of your appointment.

For oral conscious sedation, IV sedation, and general anesthesia, yes. You will need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for a period of time while the sedation fully wears off. Nitrous oxide patients typically do not require a driver.

That depends on the type of sedation. Nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation allow you to remain awake and responsive throughout your appointment. IV sedation produces a deeper state of relaxation, and general anesthesia renders you fully unconscious. We will help you choose the option that best matches your needs and comfort level.

Nitrous oxide clears your system within minutes of removing the mask. Oral conscious sedation and IV sedation may leave you feeling drowsy for several hours afterward, and lingering effects can sometimes last up to 24 hours. We always recommend resting for the remainder of the day following deeper sedation.

That is exactly what your consultation is for. Dr. Bell will review your health history, discuss your anxiety level and treatment needs, and help you determine which option will give you the most comfortable and effective experience. There is no pressure and no one-size-fits-all answer.
